Our Story ~ Cooks Outfitting
Cook’s Outfitting has been offering guided black bear hunting trips in Saskatchewan, Canada, since 2017. Our operation began near Dorintosh, building on a long tradition of ethical, well-run guided hunts. In 2022, we relocated to Goodsoil, Saskatchewan, where we now have access to expanded low-pressure bear habitat and more opportunity for immersive hunting experiences.
The move was driven by a desire to provide hunters with the best territory possible, creating more natural encounters and a greater chance to observe bear behavior in the field.
From Dorintosh to Goodsoil
When I purchased the outfitting business from the Sontag family, I was honored to carry forward a legacy of quality and respect for the land. While the Dorintosh area gave us a strong foundation, my passion for trophy black bear hunting and my vision for the future led us to relocate to Goodsoil. Here we have access to vast areas that allow bears to behave naturally, giving our hunters extended opportunities to observe and judge bears with confidence.
A Lifetime of Hunting, a Passion for Guiding
My name is Chris Cook, and hunting has been a part of my life for over 40 years. I’ve hunted across North America and always dreamed of owning an outfitting operation where I could share this passion with others. Turning that dream into reality and welcoming hunters to Saskatchewan has been one of the greatest honors of my life.
One of my favorite parts of guiding trophy black bear hunts is introducing people to the bears themselves — helping them learn to judge size and behavior, and to make confident, ethical decisions in the field. Whether it’s your first guided hunt or you’ve hunted for years, I strive to make every hunt memorable and fulfilling.
What Makes Our Hunts Different
At Cook’s Outfitting, we focus exclusively on trophy black bear hunts in Western Canada. Because hunting pressure is significantly lower here than in many other regions, bears often behave more naturally. This gives hunters rare opportunities to observe them calmly and at close range before making decisions, which enhances both the experience and the success of the hunt.
Many of our guests return year after year, often bringing friends or family along to share the experience. These relationships — built in camp and in the field — are what make guiding truly meaningful to me.
